Research Interest

I am interested in the development of alternative pathways to nucleation in the calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate systems. My PhD project aimed to characterise calcium carbonate prenucleation clusters using synchrotron and neutrons radiation techniques (SAXS/WAXS, XAS, dispersive and usual XAS, SANS, µSANS), and define the impact of pH and solubility limit on these nanoclusters forming during the early stage of nucleation.

 

My current project at the University of Konstanz aims to understand the behaviour of calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate regarding the cluster-based formation of anisotropic amorphous intermediates, as well as to elucidate the role of pH, carbonate/phosphate ratio and supersaturation level. This project, within the framework of the SFB 1214, is a collaboration between the research groups of Prof. Karin Hauser and Dr. Denis Gebauer.
